In March of 1963 the Alliance Française came to Kansas City. The driving force behind it was Sally Ingalls Keith, a woman of great style and broad cultural interests. She organized the group from among French enthusiasts around town and launched it at a River Club Gala honoring the Comte de la Villebrune.
Sally was President for 10 years and during that period she recruited a traveling French theatre company that came every year to perform. There were 14 Juillet events at Richard Stern's and a French cooking school held in the KCPower and Light Company building.
In addition to social events, the Alliance encouraged local high school students studying French to compete in THE CONCOURS, a national essay contest sponsored by the Alliance Française of the United States and the French Embassy in Washington.
