SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
FOR TEACHERS OF FRENCH
DEADLINE: MARCH 17, 2012
The Alliance Française de Kansas City will offer a $1000 scholarship to an area French teacher who desires to study in an immersion setting in a Francophone country. Please read the following eligibility requirements before submitting an application.
Eligibility
Applicants for this scholarship must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents whose first language is not French. Applicants must hold a teaching position in French for the 2011-2012 school year, or have signed a contract for a teaching position in French for the 2012-2013 school year. Only those applicants who are members in good standing of the AFKC will be considered. Members of the board of the AFKC are not eligible to apply.
The scholarship recipient will agree to remain an active member of the AFKC for three years. During that time the AFKC board will help the recipient organize a presentation in the Kansas City area for all interested AFKC members and other interested parties.
Selection Process
This scholarship will be awarded to an AFKC member who indicates a plan to use the scholarship money to benefit him or herself professionally, and to enhance or expand the curriculum for students. Applications will be reviewed and the decision will be announced by early April 2012. Important factors that will be considered: clarity and specificity of the candidate’s statements; reasons for applying and level of French; teaching assignment; evidence of professional commitment; future career plans in education; letters of recommendation. While a level of proficiency which will allow the individual to follow advanced-level coursework in French is expected, it is also important to the AFKC to provide this opportunity to teachers who have not had many opportunities for immersion study abroad. The scholarship committee will conduct an oral interview of the finalists.
