“Stretching” is what the French call stretch class, so to confuse you just a little, we are proposing a stretch class in French! In addition to the exposure and reinforcement of new vocabulary, learning and performing another task in a target language, like exercise, helps bring together the elements of a new language by putting it into "real-life" contexts, encouraging the learner to produce and understand the language under different or more natural circumstances than a classroom would offer. The goal of this class is to give students an opportunity to learn, use, and practice French in a more immersive environment.

The session is 12 weeks, one class a week, like our other language classes.  It is designed for all levels of French and physical abilities, Samantha will adjust the course material and movements to each student and group based on their level.

The session begins with 30 minutes of introductory vocabulary and concepts, where you will learn the basics of the human body and movement. Students will have an opportunity to ask questions and interact with each other and the teacher in French.

The following hour will consist of various stretches for all levels, guided by the instructor exclusively in French.  If you would like to skip the 30 minute intro and discussion (for more advanced speakers, for example), you are welcome to just show up just for the stretch class.  The focus will mainly be on stretching the lower body, but upper body stretches and any other areas students may wish to focus on will also be addressed.

Wear comfortable warm clothing that moves well when you stretch! No need for shoes or any special equipment, however you may choose to bring a yoga mat or similar if you have one.

You may sign up anytime during the session, however you must pay for the remainder of classes at a pro-rated fee of $15 per class remaining.

    About the Instructor:

Samantha Peytoureau is from Pau, in the southwest France.  She and her husband were relocated here for work at the end of December 2017; he works for Russell Stover and she is a purchasing agent at Seaboard where she works with international vendors and buyers.

In France, she had been teaching dance, pole dancing, stretching, and more for over two years and has continued to do so here in Kansas City.  She is also currently working to get her personal trainer certificate with the American Council of Exercise. AFKC is partnering with her to offer one of her classes in French, and we are so excited to try out this new class with her!
