    This is a teacher-guided conversation open to all current AFKC members.

    It is open to all levels of French speakers, come hang out with some francophiles!

    Prospective students for our classes can also take advantage of this meet-up to help determine which level may be best.  Do not not hesitate to ask the teacher for input!

    THIS CLASS WILL BE CONDUCTED ONLINE due to the evolving risk of COVID-19 and the need to stay-at-home and/or physically distance.  Masks are currently required for any in-person meeting.

    You are welcome to register late, but understand that classes progress weekly.  

    This class is for very beginners, it's an introduction to the French language.

    The grammar for this level includes reflexive verbs, the past tense, the future tense, the imperfect and an introduction to the subjunctive and inversion. Vocabulary is comprised of body parts, the seasons, the five senses, and words that express time and duration. At this level, you will be able to tell how your day went, compare objects and people, describe a person and his/her personality, understand and talk about weather forecasts, and express yourself in various levels of formality.

    French A1 classes use the Saison 1 textbook and workbook.

    THIS CLASS WILL BEGIN ONLINE AND MAY CONCLUDE IN PERSON - depending on the evolving risk of COVID-19 and the need to stay-at-home and/or physically distance.

    This beginner/elementary French A1.2/A2 Level class is 12 weeks long and meets once a week from 6 to 8pm.

    This is a follow-up class to the A1.2/A2. 
    At this level you will be able to ask for and give directions, describe where you are, give orders or give advice, talk about obligations and duties, describe a place and its location and talk about your vacation. Grammar points include the imperative mood, indirect object pronouns, past participle agreement, prepositions concerning location, demonstrative adjectives, the pronoun y and article contractions.

    French A2 classes use the Saison 2 textbook and workbook.

    THIS CLASS WILL BE CONDUCTED ONLINE due to the evolving risk of COVID-19 and the need to stay-at-home and/or physically distance.  Masks are currently required for any in-person meeting.

    This intermediate French - B2 is 12 weeks long and meets once a week from 6 to 8pm.

    This class follows French (B1.2) and is meant to transition the student into the C levels.  Verb revision in this class includes present, past, imperfect and subjunctive tenses. New grammar points are the recent past, the superlative and possessive pronouns. You will be able to describe events from the past, ask someone’s opinion, express a value judgment, and make comparisons.

    French B2 uses the Saison 4 textbook and workbook.

    This intermediate French B1.1 class is 12 weeks long and meets once a week from 6 to 8pm.

    This is a follow-up class to the A1.0 Absolute Beginner's class.  At this level you will be able to communicate in very familiar contexts with the help of the listener.  Grammar points include the present tense, command forms (the imperative mood), indirect object pronouns, past participle agreement, prepositions concerning location, demonstrative adjectives, the pronoun y and article contractions.

    This class will be held in person. Masks are currently required for any in-person meeting. Full vaccination is required, for the safety of our members, staff and community.

    Learn the French language and francophone culture through music! This is a bilingual course is taught in French and English, but is open to French speakers of all levels. 

    Join us this summer for a special course that combines music appreciation, language and culture to help you learn and master French!  

    We will survey the most important genres of French music and meet the most important artists in francophone music and culture. An emphasis will be given to the song texts, as we will examine and learn from the lyrics to songs as well as enjoy the music itself! The instructor is Aaron Burns M.M., AFKC language center coordinator. 

    This Summer class will be offered in July and August for 5 weeks (10 contact hours). This is a fun chance to focus on French through music and genres will include:  

    • la musique folklorique / traditionnelle 

    • la musique classique / l’opéra / ballet 

    • le chanson française / la musique-pop 

    • le jazz / cabaret / la musique créole / zydeco / hip-hop 

    • la musique africaine / antillaise francophone 

    Current AFKC Membership is required at the time of registration. No books or workbooks are required. A laptop will be helpful, so you can keep track of new music and lyrics that you’ll discover!
