Get serious about speaking French! Monday conversations are a perfect place to build or polish your conversation skills in a friendly environment! Please sign up so we can know how many people to expect, and so that we can contact you in the event of a schedule change or any other updates.

This is a teacher-guided conversation open to all current AFKC members. Each week there is a theme agreed upon the week before. 

Our weekly event is open to all levels of French speakers, come hang out with some francophiles!

Prospective students for our classes can also take advantage of this meet-up to help determine which level may be best.  Do not not hesitate to ask the teacher for input!

This class will be held in person. Masks are currently required for any in-person meeting. Full vaccination is recommended, for the safety of our members, staff and community.

This is a class for Absolute Beginner's French, level A1.0. We'll working through chapters 0-2 of the Saison 1 books. 

At this level you will begin to communicate in very familiar contexts with the help of the listener, including the ability to introduce yourself, and ask about others. Grammar points include the present tense (of the verbs être (to be), avoir (to have), venir (to come) and regular verbs ending in -er), subject pronouns, tonic pronouns, statements and questions, prepositions (à, de) and their contractions, numbers 1-1000, colors, articles and gender of nouns, vocabulary relative to everyday items and places.

This is a class for Beginner's French, level A1.2.  We will work through chapters 6, 7, 8, 9 of the Saison 1 books. 

This class will cover describing places, making comparisons, forming commands, expressing agreement and obligations, opinions and talking about the weather.  The  Grammar points include a continuation of the present and past tenses, the placement of adjectives, compound prepositions, the pronoun "y", relative pronouns, direct and indirect object pronouns (les compliments directs et indirects) with introductions to the future tense and the conditional mood.

THIS CLASS WILL BE HELD ONLINE. You will be invited to the first Zoom meeting at least 24 hours in advance of the first class. Makes are required for in-person meetings and full vaccination is recommended for participants. 

This class is for Elementary French level A2.1. We will work through Chapters 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the Saison 2 books. 

At this level you will be able to ask for and give directions, describe where you are, give orders or give advice, talk about obligations and duties, describe a place and its location and talk about your vacation. Grammar points include the imperative mood, indirect object pronouns, past participle agreement, prepositions concerning location, demonstrative adjectives, the pronoun y and article contractions. We will continue working with the present and past tenses, future tense and conditional mood.

This intermediate French class is aimed at students who are at level B1 and maybe repeated if desired. We will work through Chapters 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 of the Saison 3 books. 

This class includes a look at the present subjunctive mood and includes further use of the present, past tenses, the future tense and the conditional mood. New grammar points are the recent past, the superlative and possessive pronouns. You will be able to describe events from the past, ask someone’s opinion, express a value judgment, and make comparisons.

French B1 classes use the Saison 3 textbook and workbook. Please order in advance of class!

This class is for beginners. We will work through chapters 3, 4 and 5 of the Saison 1 books.  

These chapters will help you to discuss hobbies and activities, your daily routine, how to tell the time, preferences and justifications.  We will discuss clothing items, proposing and accepting invitations,  and foods. The grammar for this level will include more verbs in the present tense including pronominal verbs, talking about the near future, and by the end an introduction to the the past tenses (le passé composé et l'imparfait). Other items include demonstrative adjectives, more interrogatives, adverbs of frequency, more about negation, talking about quantities (les articles partitifs) and an introduction to imperatives. 

French A1 classes use the Saison 1 textbook and workbook.

This is a one-day workshop class for speakers at level A1.1 and higher. In this workshop, we'll prepare ourselves for learning the pronoun "en", which will be addressed in a later workshop. Here we will learn the partitive (special to French) and how to talk about quantities.  Talking about quantities (how much / some, etc.) is an essential part of mastering conversational French. If you feel like this is a tricky grammar topic, this workshop will be perfect for you to get in some more practice and have your questions answered!  Learning materials will be provided by the instructor.

This class will be held ONLINE. Registrants will be sent an invitation to the meeting in advance. Masks may be required for in-person meetings. Full vaccination is recommended, for the safety of our members, staff and community.

This is a one-day workshop class for speakers at level A1.1 and higher. In this workshop, we'll learn and practice using the pronoun "en" which is commonly used in every day French and can be tricky for students. We will survey situations in which the pronoun "en" is used with various verbs, expressions and to replace previously mentioned elements of the sentence. If you feel like this is a tricky grammar topic, this workshop will be perfect for you to get in some more practice and have your questions answered!  Learning materials will be provided by the instructor.

This is a one-day workshop class for speakers of any level. We will explore and practice principles of French phonics, pronunciation and stress utilizing real word phrases and sentences. Learn some basics of the international phonetic alphabet and special techniques to improve your pronunciation. Improve your French pronunciation with us in a workshop that will improve your skills in the spoken language. Participants are invited to bring any examples of specific questions they have about the topic. Learning materials will be provided by the instructor.
