Ten years ago, we were all shaken to our core by the horrific attacks in Paris — a night of terror that struck at the very heart of France. On November 13, 2015, coordinated attacks claimed 129 lives and injured hundreds, shattering the sense of safety in a city known for its art, culture, and joy of living.
Here in Kansas City, our community came together in solidarity and compassion. More than 100 people — including French nationals and local
residents — gathered at the Liberty
Memorial/WWI Museum for a vigil.
Organized by former AFKC president and Honorary Consul Cyprienne Sinowitch, and then President of AFKC, Patrick Raymond, the ceremony
included a moment of silence in honor of the victims. Many held French flags, candles, and flowers, while voices joined together to sing La
Marseillaise.
We also remember that the Mayor of Kansas City organized a ceremony at City Hall.
That evening, City Hall, Union Station, and several downtown landmarks were illuminated in blue, white, and red — a powerful symbol of
unity and support.
This year, as France commemorates the attacks, we want to reflect on that moment when Kansas City stood in solidarity with France.
